Summer Closure & Stoke Library Remediation Information

Summer Closure FAQs

All three branches of Nelson Public Libraries will close from 3pm on 24 December 2024 for the Christmas and New Year period to give our staff a well-earned break. We will reopen on Friday 3 January 2025.

What do I do if I have items on loan during the summer closure period?

Please hold onto your items if you can as this means our staff aren't inundated with returns on their first day back at work. All due dates will be extended to accommodate the shutdown period. You can check the exact due date for your items by logging into your account here.

However, if you need to return items to us, you can drop them into any branch library. The after-hours returns slots at all three library branches remain open so that you can securely return your books.

I have an item on hold at the library. Can I pick this up?

All holds will have extended pick-up dates to account for the closure. You can check when this is by logging into your library account here or through our app.

Can I still access the blue blocks?

Unfortunately, the blue blocks will be unavailable throughout the closure period.

Where else can I go to access Justice of the Peace services?

Except for 28 December, which falls within the closure period, the Justice of the Peace service will continue to be available on Saturdays from 10 AM to 12 PM at both Elma Turner Library and Stoke Library. You can also visit the Found Directory to access alternative venues and contacts for JP services.

I have submitted an inquiry regarding Book a Librarian/ Skinny Jump/ Interloan/ Meeting Room booking for dates after 16 December. When can I expect a response?

Please note that, due to the upcoming holiday closure period, our services will experience a slowdown. Any inquiries submitted between 11 December 2024 and 5 January 2025, will not be processed until Monday, 6 January 2025.

The Nightingale Library Memorial meeting room is available for booking during our closure period, however, you will need to confirm your booking and pick up a key before we close at 3pm on 24 December.

I use the library for Wi-Fi, internet access or printing. What other options are there for accessing these services?

Wi-Fi is available throughout the central city, including outside of the three libraries between 9am - 8pm daily. Printing services will not be available at the libraries during our closure period. Printing can be done at Warehouse Stationery or other commercial businesses for a fee. Please approach them directly.

How can I keep up to date with what’s going on?

We will provide regular updates through the following channels:
