Every Note Played by Lisa Genova
Richard is a concert pianist who starts losing the use of his hands and is diagnosed with motor neurone disease (ALS).
Genova writes from both his point of view and his ex-wife's and much of the day to day details of the condition are threaded through with the problems in their relationship in the past bringing up the themes of redemption and forgiveness on both sides. Genova is a neuroscientist who is known for her Still Alice novel and this one is just as compelling. The reality of this condition in all its horror is portrayed without sentiment.
